Israel weighs hitting Hamas

JERUSALEM
Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Tuesday weighed launching a first Israeli offensive against the new Hamas-led Palestinian government after a suicide bomber killed nine people in Tel Aviv.

Government sources said Olmert would convene his interim cabinet and army chiefs at 10.30 a.m. local time to decide on a response to Monday's attack, which Hamas called "self defence" by kindred group Islamic Jihad against Israeli crackdowns.
