NY-DOP has commissioned a 17-minute film called Satyagraha, featuring Arun Gandhi, grandson or Mohandas Gandhi, to be shown before the feature that will help dispel common myths and reveal the true power of nonviolence.

New Yorkers Poised to Transform Sept. 11
into a Message of Hope and Healing

For New Yorkers and everyone hoping for global peace, September 11, 2006 has a special significance. It marks 100 years to the day that Mohandas K. Gandhi launched the modern nonviolent movement. To honor the extraordinary link between both dates, New Yorkers for a Department of Peace (NY-DOP), in partnership with the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence, has organized nationwide screenings of the movie Gandhi on September 11.

Sony Entertainment is re-releasing the Academy Award-winning movie in 7 movie theaters coast to coast including Regal Cinema, New York City near the World Trade Center. A press conference is scheduled on September 11, 2006 at 10:00 am in the Regal Cinema auditorium prior to the day’s screenings and will be open to press and invited guests.
